36. London filming day

On October 13th 2017 we went to central London to do a large chunk of our filming. We arrived in London approximately 11 am. This gave us plenty of time to film as we wanted to film in the daylight and also the night time. When we were in London we had to find different places to get changed. This was quite easy to do as there was a McDonalds everywhere we went. The costume changes were worth is because we wanted to make each location see like a different day. We planned a travel route for the day to make the most of our time there. We started from the furthest point from the train station and then made our way back. Again like Riverside we did come across some challenges on our way and changes, which I will be discussing later on.
Our first stop on the list was Camden/ Camden markets. When was arrived in Camden we didn't know the way to Camden markets which wasn't very helpful. We used Google maps to find our way to the market. On our way to Camden markets we found lots of places to film lip syncing and some creative shots too that were not planed originally. These shots again were better and more creative ideas then we originally planned to do from our story bored. I did some lip syncing in this location; this was a tracking shot of me walking along side graffiti. We found this very conventional because of the bright colours. The background was also black which gave a nice contrast between me and the wall. Paige also did some lip syncing too. This was against graffiti again but was a still shot. We used the tripod for a three person shot at a bus stop. This was very helpful as we wanted a shot with all three of us but we need someone to film. So the tripod was our best solution.

Our next stop was Westminster on our way to this location we stopped at iconic tube stations to do a little bit of filming for our montage which we planned to do. We also took the opportunity to do some lip syncing which I filmed a wide shot of Eleanor doing.
We arrived at Westminster were we hard to cross the bridge to get to Namco. Namco is an underground arcade/ bar. When we got to this location we needed to do a costume change. This was easy to do as Namco had toilets. We managed to film a couple of shots here but we was unable t5o film everything. The reason for this was that we had a staff member come over to us and told us to take the tripod down. This was a shame as we still had more to do. We weren’t able to do anymore three person shots here because of the tripod not being allowed. This put us off from filming any more as we were worried we would get kicked out.

Our next stop on the list was Piccadilly. When we arrived we had to do another costume change. Again this was not too much of a problem as there was a McDonalds nearby which was convenient.  This was a very heavily touristy place to film. Luckily the tourist didn't get in the way. The down side to the tourist was getting in the way of our camera shots and, it was very awkward lip syncing in front of loads of people. The filming here was very successful as we were able to film four really good shots. We managed to do a two person shot of me and Eleanor standing near the fountaining, Eleanor lip syncing and myself. We also did a pan of our location which was really nice as we had the iconic red busses in our shot.

Next on our list was China Town. Luckily China Town was not far from us so we walked. On our walk to China Town we walked through Leicester Square were we did some shots as we thought we might as well as it was on route. We took some nice shots but we're not sure if we will us them. We arrived at China Town where we found the setting was not as fixable as we thought it would be. There was not as much as we thought which was disappointing. We still managed to film a couple of shots. For example a point of view, wide shot and mid shot of us in china town. We still liked this location because of the lanterns and culture.
Our next stop was Soho town. At this location we needed to do another costume change, luckily again we found a McDonalds to get changed in. This location was particularly difficult to find because no one knew this area very well. We ended up at Oxford Street. We did do some filming. We filmed us watching a banded and some random shots at might be good fillers. In Oxford Street there were lanterns. Eleanor had the idea of filming the lanterns as a good transition from day to night. It was mainly filled with shops, when we were looking for pubs to show a night out. As this location was not what we wanted I had the idea of going to Covent Garden as I know from past experiences it is a very pretty location and has pubs too.

We arrived in Covent Garden were we didn't need to do a costume change as this was a part of Soho. We didn't film exactly what we planned to do but the shots we did film were very ascetically pleasing to look at. Paige and I did a duo lip syncing. We originally planned to just have Paige sing and I would just sit there but we found this did not look good. We do realise this might be a challenge to edit as we have to make sure both of us are in sync. Again we tried to us the tripod but Covent Garden security approached us and asked if we could take the tripod down. We thought it would be ok for us to us it as we was outside using it but still no. This meant that our final shot was wonky. We also did some filming in the restraint area. Where page filmed from a high angle and we also did another range of shots of us having a drink.
In conclusion this was a very successful day of filming that my group and I were very happy about. On the journey home we looked though the footage and noticed we had missing bits but we are back in London on the 24th to film Winter Wonderland. We learnt a lot this day from filming in so many different locations. I felt that our ideas and camera skills developed though our day making our video stronger. We also learnt that in London they don't like us using a tripod because it is big and could be something else.
