Indie Pop
Music videos
- Creepy and unusual
- Have a narrative
- On edge
- Setting is old
- Fast cuts
Indie pop originates from the late 1970's in the United
Kingdom. Indie pop is a combines guitar pop and DIY ethic. This style differs
from indie rock to the extent that it is more melodic, less abrasive, and
relatively. Its roots in the Scottish post-punk bands on the Postcard Records
label in the early '80s such as Orange Juice and Josef K and the dominant UK
independent band of the mid-eighties, The Smiths.
THE AMAZONS
The Amazon is an Indie pop/Alternative genre band. That originates from the 2014 in Reading. Their music videos are very much relaxed showing people having fun and performing. They jump cut between locations. At the begging of the video there is graphics that come up on the screen to introduce the video and the meaning. The costumes the actors are wearing leather jacket, this is to make them come across as rock/ bad boys. This shows the mood of the people in the video is lie. The props they hold are musical instruments, mainly guitars and some drums. This is when the band is shown playing to audiences and at a party.
MELANIE MARTINEZ
Melanie Martinez is an Indie pop, Electro pop, Alternative and Indie rock. She is an American singer, songwriter, music video director and photographer. Born in Astoria, Queens and raised in Baldwin, New York on long Island. Her music videos are narrative based; they all have a meaning and story she is trying to tell. For example 'Mrs Potato Head' is telling you don't need to change your image for a man to love you. The song also covers the subject of plastic surgery and that it doesn't always make you better looking. The music video starts off with a girl watching TV and is being told she needs to wear make-up and be bold to be pretty. She tries this and puts a wig on her head to be perfect but it doesn't work. By the end of the video we see you don't need to change yourself as your perfect just the way you are, don’t let people change you. This is represented how Melanie is looking at the end of the music video.
Imagine Dragons
Imagine Dragons is an American rock band from Las Vegas, Nevada, consisting of lead vocalist Dan Reynolds, lead guitarist Wayne Sermon, bassist Ben McKee, and drummer Daniel Platzman. The Imagine dragon’s music videos are very narrative based but also do hybrids which are narrative and performance based video. For example Radioactive is a narrative based music video. This goes along the story line of animal fighting; these animals are represented as stuffed animals. Between this we do jump cut the animal fighting, singing and trying to stop the animal fight. The paces of the cuts are very fast this is to show how much action is going on in the video. I also noticed that there are lots of close-up shots; particularly of faces this is to show expression on their faces. We also then get to know the people in the video more.
This post has benefited me a lot as it has abled me to see how the genre indie pop music video are done.
