61. Fine Tooth Combing Our Video

Now I'm going to be very picky. For the Christmas break I have decided to take my groups video home to watch again and again. While doing thus I'm have been nip picking every single bit. The reasons for this because I want my team’s video to be the best and don't always feel comfortable to criticising normal but I really need to now as we are coming to the finished piece.

1. My first point that I have picked out was the jump cut. Though yes I do think our solution works. The part I found that didn’t work was thee green overlay. This is because the original image is very green, so by putting a green over lay over the top doesn't work. I think that the overlay colour should be changed to a completely different colour maybe yellow or orange. I have chosen yellow because blue and pink have already been chosen. This means I couldn't have picked purple as it’s too close to blue. I couldn't have picked red as it is close to pink.

2. Looking at Riverside Country Park colouring it does not all fit together. What I'm saying is that the establishing shot of riverside has a purple and yellow tint to the image. When the camera cuts to a point of view shot and me sitting on my own they colouring has not got the same tone. The Lip syncing clip of Eleanor is different to compared to the rest of the video. I propose that the point of view, I sitting on my own and Eleanor singing get changed to fit in to the video. I think those ones should be changed because the other shots of Riverside fit the rest of the video.

3. The match on match action shot of Eleanor is not exactly on point. When I watch this though I see Eleanor from the back, before the camera changes the angle she is next to the podium. When the camera cut the other side she is not next to the podium she's next to a stone pillar. This will be a simple fix as we would have to re-do the cropping of clips to get the much on match shot to fit perfectly. The mistake is very minute to notice as the overall shot is only three seconds long. My team mates might disagree with my point but I think it’s worth trying to fix.

4. There’s a shot of Eleanor walking forwards. We see this from the pack; this shot is also part of the match on match action shot. Eleanor is very small in this shot and is only on one side of the shot. To improve this shot, the clip could be made smaller. This could cut off the left of the image where nothing is happening, making Eleanor more the focus other than the scenery.

5. Crossing over from Rochester to Westminster there’s an establishing shot, point of view of us walking up the stairs, then back to the water, mid shot of Eleanor walking up the stairs. I don't think that this order of clips flow together correctly. I propose that the sequence of these clips to be changed. I think the new order should be the two videos of the girl walking up the stairs, and then the two water videos together. I think this would flow much better, but I don't know 100% until I go back to school and try it out.

6. China town, a wide shot of Eleanor and Paige looking at a menu. In this shot you can also see a non-Chinese building next to it which I don't think fits in with the location as well. My solution to this is to us the crop tool and cut off the white building next door, so we can't see it.

7. The flash back is not as good as it could be. I think at the begging of the flash back there should be a transition to signify this more. As I think a cut doesn't make the flash back as dramatic. I also think the flash back should be quicker. If we merged the whole adventure together then speed it up to fit into the gap. When I watched the flash back it’s too slow and doesn't have all the memories that the rest of the video has.

I have watch through the whole video and have picked everything that I could see. I have only watched it through twice. If I watch it again but later I might be able to see some more elements to pick at but for now these seven points are all the ones I can see. Putting a fine tooth comb through our video has been very helpful as we might not always been very picky about the video. By watching every bit of the video through and thinking how we could improve this or thinking that that frame does not look right and noting them down. I am not able to go back to my team mates and tell them what I have picked out and suggest how we could fix/improve the point I have made. I am glade that I have do this post as I was able to write down what I think needs improving and how we could improve these problems.
