In this post I am going to analyses digipaks that are
already out on the pop market. This way I will get an idea of what the layout
and style my design should be. This way my design will look genuine.
My first digipak I'm going to analyses is Katy Perry (Teenage Dream) who is a popular pop artist. The second one I'm going to analyse is Rihanna (Load) who is also a popular pop artist. The third one is Rihanna again but a different digipak.
My first digipak I'm going to analyses is Katy Perry (Teenage Dream) who is a popular pop artist. The second one I'm going to analyse is Rihanna (Load) who is also a popular pop artist. The third one is Rihanna again but a different digipak.
This digipak is aimed at young teens and up. I think this
because the main title of the album teenage dream. The colour scheme applies to
young teens as it is very pink, bright red, bright blue and bright green. The
font that has been used on this digipak is sweet themed. The name 'Katy Perry'
is done is strawberry laces and the tittle of the digipak 'Teenage Dream' has
been done in the style of candy canes. This is because the imagery that has been
used is from 'California Girls' music video is candy themed. The font ties in
to the song 'California Girls' which is on the digipak. Though the digipak is
called 'Teenage Dream' the design is from 'California Girls'. Every time there
is the letter 'O' it is related by candy, this is effective as they are
continuing with the theme of sweets from 'California Girls'. The outer design has all the candy floss and
her lying naked across it. This is to make her applying on to an adult audience
as she is trying to look sexy. In the
inside there's a black background, this is to make the artiest stand out. She
is wearing a glittery dress and has bright pink/green props. Katy Perry is the
main focus in this image. The CD has a print on them too that go with the candy
theme. One CD is a candy cane swirl, were as the other one is a blue and pink
doughnut. The CD tie into this candy theme as they have sweets printed onto
them. This is effective as the CD has more relation to the music video of
'California Girls'. Where the tittles of
the songs are displayed they hare to the left. Then the right there are the
titles of the extra CD which is in a different colour to the other songs. The
reason for this is to show that this other list is for a different CD which is
inside. Then additional information in at the bottom is small font, as it is
not the main feature.

This is a more mature I can tell because of the images that
have been used and font. The front cover image is an extreme close-up of Rihanna’s
face. The front focuses on the artist making Rihanna the main feature. The
expression on her face is soft, as her face and lips are relaxed. This gives a
peaceful look to the first appearance. Inside there is an image of Rihanna, the
men-en-scene is her laying down on a bed of roses. This matches her right red
hair. She is wearing a white puffy dress which stands out against the
background. The white dress shows hers how pure she is. The roses are to
symbolise love and romance. This imagery indicates that the songs in this
digipak are about love, lost and innocence.
The CD have a print of a blush pink roses, this matches her skin tone
which reflects well on her. The font that has been used is capital letters in
skinny lettering. This font and colour is effective as it stands out from the
image and the skinny letter continues with the softness of the overall
image.
This is another digipak of Rihanna. This Digipak has more
edge to it compared to the last one. The colours that have been used are a
black and white filter over the top of the image. The front cover is a close up
of Rihanna’s face with her mouth open, looking shocked. In the top left hand
corner there is an R this is because her name starts with a R. On the back
cover there is another image of Rihanna. She is wearing shorts, white top and a
blazer; this is possibly to make herself look seductive. In this image she is
also wearing glasses while smoking. The cigarette is to signify that she is a
rebellious, as smoking is looked as a bad thing to do. This also makes you look
like a rebel. On the back there are the songs that are included in the CD. The
compensation of the information is different to Katy Perry’s. The songs are in
red capitals in the top left hand corner. The song titles are at an angle which
is on its side. I found it harder to read the songs as they are on an angle.
There is also a barcode at an angle on the bottom right hand corner. The reason
why I think that they have put all the information squished at the side, to
made the image more of the main feature. Inside there are two different images.
The image on the left is a long shot and a low angle of Rihanna. She is dressed
in stropped patterns. This is to like back to jail cloths. She is wearing a
long skirt and a bust top. This is again to look seductive again for her
audience. She is sat down on a step with her legs open and her hand in her
hair. This is to look edgy. In the other image it is a close up of Rihanna's
face in a newspaper. This is to show that she is a bad rebellious person. As
she is in the newspaper, I know it’s not for something good as it is all in
black and white. The CD has a newspaper print on it with the title saying
Rihanna. This ties in with the theme of the overall CD together.
In conclusion analysing real pop digipak has been very
beneficial to me as it has allowed me to see how professional digipaks
compositions are used. This has also helped me see how they have portrayed the
artiest is a certain light. I have also be able to see what effect colour has
on the digipaks appearance.
